Board Member

Green Card Voices is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is sharing the stories of a diverse group of first generation immigrants coming to the United States. Green Card Voices utilizes digital storytelling to share personal narratives of America’s immigrants, fostering tolerance and establishing a better understanding between immigrants and their communities. Our dynamic, video-based platform, traveling exhibits, teaching resources, and multimedia books are designed to empower a variety of educational institutions, community groups and individuals alike to acquire first-person perspective about immigrants’ lives, increasing the appreciation of the immigrant experience in America.

We are seeking engaged members of the community to serve on the board of directors to help guide our organization from a start-up phase to an expansive, established phase as we work to address the growing need and high demand of our work because of the current political climate. We are seeking individuals who will aid us in establishing sustainable resources, focus on fundraising/development, and envisioning our next strategic plan. This is an active board that meets monthly, and we’re looking for individuals who are interested in engaging actively in our work, including at and between meetings, bringing their unique perspectives and gifts to the work as well as helping us fundraise in a variety of ways to help increase our impact and capacity.

We are seeking representation from the following communities:

  • First-generation immigrant, or understanding/deep connection to the immigrant experience/community

  • Individuals passionate about immigrant advocacy, storytelling, and impact
  • Previous board experience is a plus

Program Director

Green Card Voices (GCV) is a non-profit, mixed-media storytelling organization that tells the first-hand stories of immigrants in various forms (books, digital, live) in an effort to build context and bridges in communities. We utilize digital, print, photographic, and in-person storytelling to share personal narratives of America’s immigrants, fostering tolerance and establishing a better understanding between the immigrant and nonimmigrant populations. Our dynamic, video-based platform, published books, traveling exhibits, and storytelling events are designed to empower a variety of educational institutions, community groups and individuals to acquire first-person perspective about immigrants’ lives, increasing awareness and understanding of the immigrant experience in America. GCV was founded on the premise that narratives about new immigrants should be communicated in a manner true to the story of each immigrant. By acting as a counterweight to the negative rhetoric and prevailing stereotypes about the current wave of immigration, GCV seeks to build bridges and foster constructive dialogue between immigrants, non-immigrants, and advocates across the United States.

We are looking for a creative, high-energy, and positive individual to co-lead with the Executive Director and Finance and Operations Director (Co-leaders), and meet the organization’s fast-growing needs.

1) Board Governance

  • Report updates to the Executive Director prior to Pre-Board meeting, attend all Board and developmental committee meetings.
  • Responsible for co-leading in a collaborative manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors and Co-leaders’ Principles Document.
    Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

2) Programming

  • Work with a co-leadership team, including the Executive Director and Finance and Operations Director to support overall organization needs.
  • Supervise Program Associate and any other Program related consultants, Public Ally/Americorps, interns and volunteers.
  • Manage book production process, while working closely with book distributor Ingram/Consortium, from conception to production, publishing and promotion (including creating and monitoring timelines, meetings, drafting and editing content).
  • Enhance Green Card Voices’ digital marketing through all social platforms
  • Build and maintain relationships with immigrant storytellers/authors (including communication, scheduling, and handling logistics for speaking event/book readings/book promotion events).
  • Build and maintain relationships with programming partners, bookstores, libraries, and schools to distribute/promote books and other products and programming.
  • Communication and Writing: write E-Newsletter, and any other relevant marketing documents, including Press Release (PR), write and edit website content, and other written materials related for the organization.
  • Attend conferences, festivals, and tabling events as needed

3) Finances and Fundraising:

  • Grant Writing and Reporting.
  • Assist with the annual online fundraising campaign (Give to the Max, Giving Tuesday) and other awareness and funding campaigns.

4) Other responsibilities:

  • Research efforts (including literature reviews, data analysis, internet searches, etc.) to support the organization’s needs.
  • Advance the organization’s commitment to justice, equity and shared prosperity and foster a culture of teamwork, curiosity, innovation, and excellence.
  • University degree in a related subject
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a related field
  • Excellent writing skills and strong work ethic, knowledge of immigration issues a plus
  • Detail oriented and creative; self-starter and can work under minimum supervision
  • Knowledge of programs such as Excel, PowerPoint a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to communicate effectively with program staff and potential partners, and donors, an ability to work in a team as well as independently.
  • Grant writing experience desired, but not required

Full-time, 50K/year, health care stipend/month, PTO, 3% retirement fund match, complimentary parking included.

Marketing Associate

We are looking for an energetic and self-motivated Marketing Intern to join our growing marketing department. If you’re an ambitious individual who wants to build a career in social media and content marketing, then we want to work with you. Your work will include preparing promotional presentations, monitoring social platforms, and conducting market analysis. In addition to being an excellent communicator, you should have excellent multitasking and organizational abilities. The successful candidate will also have in-depth knowledge of marketing techniques and social media platforms.

  • Perform market analysis and research on the latest trends.
  • Assist with daily administrative duties.
  • Design and present new social media campaign ideas.
  • Monitor all social media platforms for trending news, ideas, and feedback.
  • Prepare detailed promotional presentations.
  • Help with the planning and hosting of marketing events.
  • Research and evaluate competitor marketing and digital content.
  • Contribute to the creation of mock-ups, email campaigns, and social media content.
  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate course for Marketing, Communications or similar field.
  • Familiarity with marketing computer software and social media platforms.
  • Good understanding of the latest marketing trends and techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have a passion for marketing.
  • Outstanding multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent writing skills and strong work ethic, knowledge of immigration issues a plus

Duration: Spring Semester 2021

$300 stipend (approx. 10-20 h/week), complimentary parking included.

Volunteer

Volunteers are a crucial part of our organization. Working as one team, we combine skills and experiences to create positive change. Offer your skills and experience to help enhanced our organizations cause.

Once a month: You can be part of our exhibit team! We need a regular pool of volunteers to help coordinate the set up and breakdown of exhibits at various locations like schools, libraries, and public spaces. The exhibits have collapsable and are stored in bags, weighing approximately two pounds. You can also assist with mailing orders of our books, story stitch decks, etc weekly for one to two hours!

One month in Spring 2021: We are always adding to our Gala volunteer team! We need volunteers to help set up and run our annual fundraising Gala. Additionally, if you have any expertise in videography, photography, or event management, your skills could be used at this event. It’s going to be a fun night, and we need the help of supporters like you to make sure it goes smoothly.

We offer volunteer hours for credit for students as well.

Transcribing: For every book project we work on, we use a transcribing program with remote volunteers to transcribe stories. Each story takes approximately 2 hours to transcribe.

Social Media: Are you interested in Marketing/Communications? A Social Media wiz? We need remote volunteers to help with posting on all of our profiles.

We offer volunteer hours for credit for students as well.
