Congratulations on the launch of “Voice for Refuge”!
Zaynab Abdi’s story is truly inspiring and I’m sure the
illustrations by Achraf El-Attar will bring her journey to life in a powerful way.
It’s important to share stories like these, especially during a time when so many people are facing
displacement and seeking refuge. I look forward to seeing the original art from the book in person and hearing from the
contributors. Thank you for organizing this
event and continuing to amplify the voices of immigrants and refugees.

What a wonderful initiative by Green Card Voices to launch “Voice for Refuge,”
the latest addition to their bilingual children’s graphic novel anthology series!
I commend the author, Zaynab Abdi, for her courage in sharing her journey from Somalia to Yemen,
Egypt, and ultimately the United States. Her experiences of war, illness, and separation from her
sister are heart-wrenching, yet her resilience and advocacy for her country and girls’ education are truly inspiring.
The illustrations by Achraf El-Attar beautifully capture the essence of Zaynab’s story.
I appreciate the decision to illustrate in powerful black and white images, as it adds
a layer of depth and emotion to the narrative.
I also want to acknowledge the Loft Literary Center and the moderator,
Ibrahim Hirsi, for hosting this event. It’s a great opportunity for the community
to come together, listen to the contributors’ experiences, and
see the original art from the book.
I look forward to attending the event and hearing Zaynab and Ashraf discuss their collaboration on this
powerful project. Thank you, Green Card Voices, for giving a voice
to refugees and promoting understanding and empathy.
