This unique teaching lesson utilizes the perspective of Itoro Emmanuel, an immigrant from Nigeria who works in the STEM field as a Nurse. In line with the National Common Core Standards, this lesson is perfectly suited for grades 6-12, as well as college age.

Objectives: 

  • Students will identify welcoming attitudes
  • Students will imagine how they would interact with a new immigrant student/international student
  • Students will name at least one country from Sub-Saharan Africa

  • What collective actions can we take to make our school more welcoming?
