“When I moved to the USA, I didn’t see my family for 16 months. It was so hard for me because every day I went to sleep and woke up dreaming about seeing them again.”

Nataliia Semeniuk was born in a large village near Odesa, Ukraine, and moved to Kharkiv 16 years ago when she married the love of her life. Together, they built a happy life living in their favorite city and raising their daughter. When war destroyed their home, their dreams were shattered, and Nataliia made the brave decision to seek a safer future for her family.

The journey was not easy. With no job, home, or resources, Nataliia went to the U.S. alone, leaving behind her husband and daughter. For 16 long months, she worked tirelessly, navigating language barriers and cultural differences while dreaming of reuniting with her family. Despite the challenges, Nataliia was inspired by the kindness and support of the American people. She found a job at Home Depot and secured a home, which allowed her family to finally join her.

Now, living in the U.S., Nataliia has embraced her new life with friendship and gratitude. She continues her work in Inventory Control and Quality Assurance (ICQA) and enjoys cooking traditional Ukrainian dishes, which she shares with her friends and family. Her love for cooking remains a source of comfort and joy, bridging her past and present.

Nataliia is a strong and determined woman who believes in creating her happiness despite life’s obstacles. She plans to start a small business and share her culture with her new community, and she believes the American people will appreciate it.
