About the Facilitator Training

An interactive and transformative 5-hour training designed for anyone interested in learning basic and in-depth facilitation skills through the Story Stitch method. Whether you’re new to facilitation or looking to strengthen your ability to guide meaningful conversations, this training will help you feel more comfortable leading group discussions and story-sharing activities.

Our certified Story Stitch Trainers will share practical tips, model facilitation techniques, and help you gain confidence to lead your own Story Stitch circles — whether for a classroom, leadership retreat, team-building day, or community gathering.

At this training, you’ll learn how to:

  • Understand the purpose and philosophy of Story Stitch — and how empathy grows through story sharing.
  • Create a brave and inclusive space for meaningful conversations by giving clear instructions and encouraging participation.
  • Practice foundational facilitation skills, including active listening, time management, and reflective discussion.
  • Gain confidence in leading your own Story Stitch circle using a step-by-step strategy.

Background info:

Story Stitch was co-designed in 2018 by Green Card Voices and a diverse group of Minneapolis–St. Paul community members to build connections between immigrants and their neighbors through storytelling.

Since then, 300+ certified Story Stitch facilitators have been trained nationwide — helping communities open minds, build empathy, and foster understanding.
